Object Management Group Issues Two New RFPs at Q4 Members Meeting

Begins open process for new specifications in language mapping and robotics

NEEDHAM, Mass., Jan. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Object Management Group® (OMG®), https://www.omg.org/ an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, issued two new Requests for Proposals (RFP) and one Request for Comment (RFC) to solicit submissions to create new standards at its quarterly members meeting, held from December 10-14, 2018, in Seattle, Washington. The meeting was sponsored by No Magic, http://www.nomagic.com/ RTI, https://www.rti.com/ and Sparx Systems http://www.sparxsystems.com/.

Organizations interested in submitting must send a letter of intent (LOI) https://www.omg.org/cgi-bin/doc.cgi?loi by the LOI deadline indicated in the RFP document. Submitting a LOI is not legally binding and does not commit an organization to being part of a submission team. The RFPs and RFC are:

  • Robotic Service Ontology RFP https://www.omg.org/cgi-bin/doc.cgi?robotics/2018-12-3 solicits proposals for a set of basic ontologies that provide a semantic model of robotic services and related robotic functional components that can support communications and interoperability between robotic services and enable composition of such services. The LOI deadline is September 16, 2019, and the initial submission deadline is November 11, 2019.
  • Interface Definition Language v4 (IDL4™) to C# Language Mapping RFP https://www.omg.org/cgi-bin/doc.cgi?mars/2018-12-2 seeks proposals to provide a standard mapping of IDL-defined data types to C# types, which will enable users to describe and expose information in a portable and interoperable manner, compatible with the .NET ecosystem. The LOI deadline is March 20, 2019, and the initial submission deadline is November 11, 2019.
  • Automated Source Code Quality Measures RFC https://www.omg.org/cgi-bin/doc.cgi?admtf/2018-12-1 was issued for comments to update these measures to extend their applicability to embedded software. Functionality that has traditionally been implemented in IT applications is now being embedded on chips, which is especially important for the growing implementation of embedded devices and the Internet of Things. Both OMG members and non-members are invited to comment using the RFC comment form located at http://www.omg.org/technology/rfc-form.htm before the deadline of February 18, 2019.

Voting by the Technical Committee is underway to adopt the following specifications:

  • MOF™ to RDF Mapping specification provides a lightweight bridge, allowing a MOF-based model (which includes UML® and SysML®) be complemented by an equivalent OWL ontology. The MOF to RDF Mapping transformation provides the necessary trace-back elements to keep both models aligned.
  • FIBO® 2.0 specification contributes to transparency in the global financial system, which aids industry firms in providing a cost-effective means for integrating disparate technical systems and message formats, and aids in regulatory reporting by providing clear and unambiguous meaning of data from authoritative sources.

Architecture Board Elections
Five OMG Member representatives were elected to the organization's Architecture Board for two-year terms, to begin in March 2019. They are:

o Dr. Jason Smith (who will serve in this seat for the remainder of its term which expires at the end of the December 2019 TC Meeting) - Elemental Reasoning
