LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) October 07, 2019 -- A recently conducted Oi survey of feminine hygiene users showed 94% agreed that organic tampons and pads are better for the environment than traditional synthetic products

Following the recent massive global protests against pollution and environmental destruction, Organic Initiative (Oi http://www.oi4me.com ) today released results from a survey that found people with periods are ready to take simple steps to protect the environment.

“Positive protest can generate lasting change,” says Helen Robinson, CEO of Oi. “Together we can help to change the environment. The average woman uses 11,000 tampons and pads in her lifetime. Switching to organics, or the reusable cup can remove millions of tons of waste from the environment.”

Company CEO and cofounder Helen Robinson also notes that through those actions, millions of tons of waste from traditional tampons and pads containing chemicals, synthetics, and chlorine bleaches can be removed from the earth and oceans.

The U.S. survey was conducted with 560 feminine hygiene users and 4 focus groups. It found that once they realized what was in their products, 94 percent of those surveyed said they strongly or somewhat agreed that organic tampons and pads would be better for the environment. Also, 85 percent strongly or somewhat agreed that organic cotton was better for their health.

Oi is a New Zealand-based company with a product range made from pure, 100% certified organic cotton tampons and pads, and a form-fitting Oi Cup, reusable for up to three years. Since launching in New Zealand in 2015, and the U.S. in 2018, Oi and Robinson have had a singular mission…to take plastics out of hygiene products, beginning with feminine hygiene.

Oi leadership also wanted to educate the market about what was in their tampons and pads. “Our packaging needed to work hard for us and was inspired by protest placards for change. Our packs carry positive protest messages, including “pure inside, nothing to hide,” “biodegradable is not debatable,” and “safe, not synthetic.” We see environmental placards in the hands of a new generation demanding action. This is one way we can all make a difference.” says Robinson.

The company backs up its core messaging with a firm commitment to doing what is best for the earth. Oi’s packaging is biodegradable, and even the pad wrappers are made with cornstarch to break down upon composting. To date, Oi has removed more than 30 million tampons and pads made from non-biodegradable synthetics from the environment.

“We believe the way to generate lasting change is through positive protest,” says Robinson. “Our message is that together all of us with periods can help to change the environment. Consider that the average woman uses 11,000 tampons and pads in her lifetime, switching to organics, or the reusable cup, can take millions of tons of waste out of the environment.”

A growing recognition of the value of products like Oi has helped to propel the organic tampon marketplace to significant growth over the past year. Analysts predict the product category in the U.S. will reach nearly $34 billion by 2025.

Oi also addresses three other issues of importance to people with periods: comfort, safety, and cost. Cotton is one of the softest and naturally absorbent products on the market – able to absorb almost 27-times its weight in liquid. Oi also tackles the issue of affordability by making the product accessible to a broad range of consumers. Oi is sold in stores like Walmart and CVS that emphasize everyday low prices.

“We want people with periods to know they can have it all when it comes to feminine hygiene products like Oi,” said Robinson. “We want to make it super easy to stop polluting the planet, as well as provide a product that works, that is safe and comfortable and based on customers’ feedback, better for their health. If we can get just one hundred people a day to switch to organic feminine products, in a year, we’ll remove more than 7,300,000 tampons and pads and millions of tons of waste from the environment – that will be something to celebrate!”
