OpenIO Announces the Release of OpenIO SDS Version 19.04
The latest version of the storage software developed by the tech startup OpenIO brings many performance and ergonomic improvements, as well as a consolidation of compatibility with S3, the standard API for Object Storage.

OpenIO's command line administration (CLI) interface has been completely redesigned to ensure standardization. Enriched, more intuitive and ergonomic, the new CLI offers a simplified experience to users of the OpenIO SDS solution.
The architecture of the administration interface (Web UI) has also been completely redesigned, making it lighter and more scalable. It now relies on the Ansible orchestrator to manage rollouts and version updates. In addition, it is now possible to perform common administrative tasks from the web UI, such as adding a node, making integrity checks, etc.
Responding to new uses
OpenIO SDS 19.04 considerably accelerates the S3 listing phase, which is crucial for Big Data processing with Spark / Hadoop and which allows OpenIO to be substituted for HDFS to store the datasets of a Hadoop cluster. In addition, more and more companies are deploying their infrastructures on two or even three sites, as part of their Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans. As a result, the latest release of OpenIO contains an optimized version of the "Replicator," the multi-site asynchronous replication service, as well as a new service to optimize the placement of data in the background after a site has been temporarily unavailable.
Consolidation of technical foundations
This release is also the result of work done to consolidate the technical bases of OpenIO SDS, necessary to stabilize the performance and further increase the robustness of the system. The new release also facilitates updates and enriches the product with new functionalities. This consolidation was done in light of a new development phase for the company, in France and internationally. With equal performance, this new version of OpenIO SDS consumes even less RAM – a significant streamlining, since OpenIO technology is already known for its efficient design.
"Conscience", the system that manages the placement of data on the platform to dynamically optimize the load, is now distributed and continuous. A new indicator gives alerts for objects that are not sufficiently secure. Compatibility with the S3 API has also been made more reliable, particularly with regard to versioning and life cycle rules management. Finally, the development team continued its efforts to industrialize the deployment of OpenIO SDS, to reduce the time needed to install a new platform.
