Pam Fine Named Editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education
Experienced Editor and Journalism Leader Will Begin Feb. 19
WASHINGTON, Jan. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Pam Fine, a national journalism leader and tenured professor, will be the eighth editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education. As editor, she will lead the nation's largest newsroom covering colleges and universities.
Fine was most recently the John S. and James L. Knight Chair for News, Leadership and Community and Professor of Journalism at the University of Kansas. There, she collaborated on media and transformation projects with professional news organizations and taught reporting, ethics, and multimedia journalism, among other subjects. She is a nationally influential voice in journalism, serving notably as president of the American Society of News Editors between 2016-17, and as a Pulitzer Prize juror four times.

Before joining the University of Kansas in 2008, Fine was the managing editor of The Indianapolis Star and IndyStar.com, where, among other highlights, she oversaw the creation of the first-ever analysis of more than 200 athletic budgets from Division 1 universities and colleges. Before that, Fine was managing editor and vice president of the Star Tribune in Minneapolis where she managed a 360-member newsroom and led a variety of high-impact journalism projects, including a Pulitzer-Prize finalist. Her first major management position was at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where she served as assistant managing editor.
Fine has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Florida and a master's degree in media management from the University of Missouri. She will start at The Chronicle on February 19, where, as part of the Chronicle newsroom, she'll also oversee The Chronicle Review and Arts & Letters Daily. Her predecessor, Liz McMillen, is executive editor of Chronicle Intelligence, a division of the Chronicle of Higher Education Inc. that produces reports, guides, and other products on a range of higher-education topics.
