Patent issued for cutting-edge, mechanical surgical drain

RH2 LLC., a start-up based in Dayton, Ohio was issued a patent on May 3, 2023, for the RH2-001 – a revolutionary, post-surgery fluid drain. Unlike conventional drains, the RH2-001 is programmable and self-cleaning, and provides reliable, consistent draining of post-surgery fluid drains. RH2 LLC. began operations in 2022 and is currently residing within and collaborating with the Entrepreneurs' Center of Dayton, Ohio on a feasibility study.
Founded in 2022 by Randy Hinders and Rob Howard, RH2 LLC., specializes in design and development of innovative device solutions. Inspiration for the RH2-001 was the result of the founders’ personal experience and frustration using conventional drain solutions. Witnessing multiple family members’ frustration and inconvenience cleaning fluid drains manually provided the motivation needed to design a better solution.
"We could not accept that drains had to be manually cleared in 2021 and a better option was not available,” said Randy. After consulting with area surgeons and medical professionals the pair went to work, promptly developing a 3D prototype unit. “The RH2-001 is designed to ensure a reliable, doctor-programmable (physician) flow of draining post-surgery body fluids. The unit is programmable for the required number of cycles and cleaning time intervals and allows normal suction when not in use. From a market perspective, the global surgical drain market exceeded $2.5B USD as of September 2021 and projected to exceed $3B USD by 2025 making RH2-001 a timely solution to a growing market need,” said Randy.
