Penn State University Wins the 2020 Hobsons Education Advances Award
Hobsons recognizes Penn State University, Florida Atlantic University and Webster University for outstanding work in Student Success and Advising
ARLINGTON, Va., July 27, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Education technology leader Hobsons recently announced Penn State University as the 2020 winner of the Hobsons Education Advances Award (EAA) for Student Success and Advising.
Each year, Hobsons recognizes academic institutions that demonstrate innovations that help students realize their full potential. This year, nearly 60 applicants submitted their success stories for awards in three categories, including Student Success and Advising.
The three finalists in this category demonstrated how they vastly improved the frequency and quality of interactions with students, especially in the areas of advising, career and academic planning.
As the 2020 EAA winner, Penn State is recognized for its commitment and ongoing work to connect conversations and drive meaningful interventions for student success. With an enrollment of nearly 100,000 students across a vast network of campuses, Penn State turned to Starfish by Hobsons in 2016 to integrate people, processes, and technology to better support students' needs. Since then, the university has made great strides in tackling the issues of access, degree completion, student debt, and food and housing insecurity. As a result, Penn State has seen significant impact on student engagement and persistence.
"Student success is at the core of Hobsons' mission. So we are thrilled to celebrate the great work happening in the education community," said Kate Cassino, CEO of Hobsons. "Penn State's transformative student initiatives across 24 campuses are inspiring. Their approach to integrating resources has made a tremendous difference in the experience and academic success of their students. We look forward to continuing exemplary work from Penn State and all of our Education Advances Award finalists."
Hobsons also recognized two other finalists for their work in Student Success and Advising. Florida Atlantic University, which rebuilt its advising model to focus on relationship building, has achieved significant increases in graduation rates for first-time college students and for those who transferred in an Associate of Arts degree. Webster University leveraged Starfish to improve communication across its expansive, global institution. With better case management and an at-risk early alert system, the university has seen higher retention, persistence and graduation rates.
