PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., May 31, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Pet Retailers, Inc., which operates 10 Petland stores in Florida and Texas, has reaffirmed its commitment to the highest possible standards of care for animals by supporting the Canine Care Certified™ program and encouraging others throughout the industry to do the same.
Created by Dr. Candace Croney at Purdue University, Canine Care Certified™ standards are part of a nationwide, voluntary program focusing on the health and overall welfare of dogs in the care of U.S.D.A.-licensed breeders. It is the only program incorporating measures of the physical health of dogs and puppies raised by breeders and with an emphasis on their behavioral well-being. Canine Care standards were developed and peer-reviewed and are routinely updated in collaboration with respected scientists and veterinarians with diverse expertise in canine health, ethics, and welfare sciences.
"Pet Retailers has always been personally committed to the physical, mental and behavioral well-being of dogs and puppies. We strive to provide happy and healthy dogs to loving families," President Luis Marquez said. "Like Canine Care standards, we have witnessed that a science-based approach to standards of care helps to raise these happier, healthier dogs and puppies. That is why Pet Retailers is committed to purchasing as many Canine Care Certified™ puppies that are available. We encourage all U.S. breeders to also become certified and support the program."
Breeders hoping to become Canine Care Certified™ must commit to meet or exceed the rigorous, expert-reviewed Five Pillars of Care for Physical Health, Behavioral Health, Environment, Breeding Life and Retirement, and Caretaker Expectation. Since 2019, 70 breeders across the U.S. have committed to being Canine Care Certified™.
