Pier59 Studios Tightens Ban on Modeling Agencies Following Increased Foul Play in the Industry

The announcement comes on the heels of Pier59's most recent ban of several other modeling agencies, Wilhelmina, Elite USA, Major, and Nomad.
"We have made the conscious decision to ban The Syndical for what we deem to be unfair treatment of its models," said Pier59 founder Federico Pignatelli. "We take models' rights seriously at Pier59, and we will continue to take the steps necessary to protect models in an unregulated industry."
As a champion of models' rights, Federico Pignatelli hopes that the most recent ban encourages all agencies to take the comprehensive bill seriously, which sets specific standards and guidelines to mitigate financial duress and protect models' fundamental rights.
Immigration violations are rampant within the fashion industry. Models are frequently sent to jobs by their agencies without proper documentation, putting them at risk for fines, jail time, and even deportation. Furthermore, the models who have been granted visas by their agencies often feel pressured by the very companies that are supposed to protect them, as their immigration status is used as leverage to encourage them to take jobs that they would otherwise turn down.
