Power Home Remodeling Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Employee-led Initiative in Charlotte
Employees at national home remodeler hosted inaugural initiative to celebrate culture and support local communities
CHESTER, Pa., Oct. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Power Home Remodeling ("Power"), the nation's leading exterior home remodeler and nationally-recognized top workplace, hosted their new annual Hispanic Heritage Month Initiative with a three-day celebration Oct. 13-16th in Charlotte, N.C. The weekend event provided an opportunity for employees to celebrate the richness and diversity of Hispanic culture and give back to the city's community.
Spearheaded by the company's Latinx employee resource group, Mi Gente, the Hispanic Heritage Month event will be a gathering of Latinx Power employees, allies, and leadership from across the country to engage in meaningful activities. The weekend's events included team outings to Latinx-owned restaurants, a volunteer project, and participation in the Hola Charlotte Festival — the largest Hispanic heritage celebration in the city, highlighting Latin American culture.
"Claiming to be an inclusive and equitable organization starts with cultivating an environment where employees feel that what makes them different is valued and celebrated," said Power's National Director of Cultural Diversity & Inclusion, Olumidé Cole. "But at Power, we're very intentional about our DE&I work expanding to our communities outside of our walls and to help drive more awareness and positive change."
Power also partnered with Charlotte non-profit, Camino, to support a local family. Employees from the home remodeling company made needed improvements to the family's home such as power washing, cabinet installation, and outdoor repairs. Camino is a trusted multicultural health center in the Charlotte region that provides a holistic approach to healthcare to underinsured and uninsured populations by addressing needs such as primary care, behavioral health, food security, and health and wellness.
"Having been a trusted ally in the Charlotte-Latino community for the past 20 years, we recognize many barriers prohibit families from coming to us to receive needed resources and services," said Deidre John, Camino's Director of Community Outreach. "Having partners such as Power Home Remodeling, come alongside of Camino, allows us to meet communities outside of our brick-and-mortar to further equip them to live healthy, hopeful, and productive lives."
