Professional Boxer Evan Holyfield Files Motion to End the Lawsuit to Void his Management Contract
The Cobos Law Firm announces that Boxing Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield's Son Files a Motion for Summary Judgment in lawsuit against his manager, Maurice "Termite" Watkins, to void their contract. Holyfield's lawsuit against his manager for theft and fraud will continue.
HOUSTON, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Cobos Law Firm today filed a Motion to end a portion of the lawsuit brought by Evander Holyfield's son, Evan Holyfield, against his boxing manager Maurice "Termite" Watkins. Holyfield's Motion asks the Court to enter an order finding that no contract exists.
The Texas law at the center of this lawsuit, 16 TEXAS ADMIN. CODE 61.20, requires Managers who officiate or participate in a regulated professional event to be licensed. Holyfield's Motion alleges that the contract is void because "Watkins was unlicensed when the two signed a contract in 2019 and remained so despite Holyfield's participation in several professional events."
Holyfield's Original Petition contains other reasons that Holyfield is suing Watkins, alleging that Watkins stole money from Holyfield and misrepresented the quality and characteristics of training that Watkins claimed he would provide to Holyfield as part of a plan to win a boxing world championship.
The case is Holyfield v. Watkins, et. al., Case No. 2020-36100, in the 334th District Court, Harris County, Texas.
