Pueblos Mágicos "Magic Towns" Explored Near Mazatlán
Mazatlán, México, July 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- When one thinks of planning a trip to México, they think of beautiful beaches, great food, Tequila, lively music, and sunshine. While all of these things and more are available in Mazatlán, there is so much culture and history that can be explored. Mazatlán itself is a cultural gem, dubbed the Pearl of the Pacific, there are dozens of sites to see and enjoy, theaters, amazing restaurants and bars, and one of the most scenic boardwalks in the world. While Mazatlán has a lot to offer, there are also several great day trips visitors can plan to explore some amazing little towns. Pueblo Mágico translates to Magic town and is a distinction given by the Mexican government to 111 towns and smaller cities across México. Known for being smaller, sleepy and truly authentic, these Pueblos are great spots to visit and enjoy a real Mexican experience. Here are two close Magic Towns visitors can visit and they are quite close to Mazatlán.
Just an hour drive from Mazatlán, visitors can find the Magic Town of El Rosario. Once one of the most important silver mining towns in México, El Rosario has over 43 miles of tunnels under the city. The scenic square and colonial buildings were built as the town developed, with the centerpiece being the Our Lady of El Rosario church. A Baroque style church with gold layers and ornate decorations inside must be a stop on everyone's tour of El Rosario. Another popular spot is the Iguanero lagoon, a popular spot for swimming and a great site to see Iguanas and turtles from the hanging bridge.
Another Magic Town even closer to Mazatlán is El Quelite, just a 45-minute drive. Red tile roofs and pastel colors and cobblestone streets, a charming little town, where local artisans are selling everything from arts and crafts, baked goods and sweet treats. One of the highlights of El Quelite is the cemetery. Several large altars adorn the burial sites. This spot is very popular on the Day of the Dead, as the traditional decorations with flowers, candles, and offerings to celebrate the dead. There are many wonderful restaurants and shops to explore, and the town has the step back in time feeling. Of course, there are signs of modern times, but it is easy to see how life was and is still today in these little villages. El Quelite exemplifies a real colonial town and is a wonderful experience that shouldn't be missed.
For many Mexican national travelers, visits to Pueblos Mágicos are one of the main reasons why reservations are made in certain destinations, as these promise culture and experiences that cannot be found in the big cities where they live.
