Real-time Motion Capture Avatars and Digital Effects Take Center Stage in Sleeping Beauty Dreams
NEW YORK (PRWEB) October 30, 2019 -- Stunning digital effects play a starring role in a contemporary retelling of the classic fable that infuses dance, music, art, and groundbreaking technology. Sleeping Beauty Dreams is a new kind of stage show intended to give audiences a rich and fully immersive visual and sensory experience.
Starring world-renowned prima ballerina Diana Vishneva, Sleeping Beauty Dreams tells the story of the Princess and her deepest longings as she lingers in her 100-year slumber. The Princess’s angels and demons are represented as surreal imagery projected in real-time on stage as 3D avatars which are mapped with a motion capture system worn by Vishneva throughout the performance.
The virtual characters and tech-driven imagery are directed solely by Vishneva’s movements, and along with eight supporting dancers become an integral part of the show. Tracking technology by Blacktrax and inertial sensor-based motion capture by Noitom makes it possible for the real-time digital projection of the avatars to move simultaneously with the Princess, letting the audience in on her most secret desires.
The show’s often haunting 3D avatars were imagined and designed by acclaimed digital artist, Tobias Gremmler known for his work with Swarovski and Björk.
The first large-scale show of its kind, Sleeping Beauty Dreams has just returned from two sold-out performances in St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre. The production now embarks on a U.S. tour beginning on November 2nd with a performance in New York and continuing throughout the month in Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, and Houston.

Sleeping Beauty Dreams is led by a team of notable industry creatives including choreographer and creative director Edward Clug, and costume designer Jorge Muskus. 4U2C, the Montreal-based creative studio known for its multimedia experiences for live performance, are the engineers behind Sleeping Beauty Dreams, translating Gremmler’s creative vision into a world-class experience for audiences.
Taking on the role of the Princess in Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston is dancer Mi Deng.
Performing alongside Deng is dancer Denis Savin, who will play the role of the Prince in Dallas and Houston. International dance star, Marijn Rademaker, will play the
role of the Prince in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, and Boston.
