SOMOS ABQ Presents 2nd Annual Creative Showcase & Celebration
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (PRWEB) July 10, 2018 -- SOMOS ABQ, a vision conceived by young professionals to illuminate the beauty and brilliance of Albuquerque, will hold its 2nd annual citywide celebration on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Activating eight city blocks in Downtown and representing one of the largest citizen-organized events in Albuquerque, SOMOS aims to generate a meaningful boost for the urban business economy and increased connection for the larger community. The festival is designed with an eye towards long-term sustainability and impact, specifically around the recruitment, retention and repatriation of young families. More than 25,000 people attended the inaugural event in 2017.
Hundreds of local collaborators – including nonprofits and community organizations, technologists and entrepreneurs, artists and designers, musicians and performers, chefs and brewers, business owners and government – band together to present this immersive showcase of the talent, creativity and spirit of Albuquerque.
Over 40 local companies, organizations, and government agencies are already committed to sponsoring this year’s event, including co-title sponsors University of New Mexico and Bernalillo County.
SOMOS ABQ will continue to announce details of programming throughout the summer; the entire festival is designed to be family friendly, and event attendees will experience:
- Four stages highlighting local bands and headlined by international music acts
- Arts Culture Tech Boulevard featuring ten large-scale, site-specific immersive art installations and participatory arts / tech making activities
- Nonprofit and Community Organizations sharing their missions and offering additional activities
- Marketplace featuring dozens of arts, design, craft, clothing and business vendors
- Yelp Food Courtyards showcasing more than 15 local chefs and restaurants
- New Mexico Brewers Guild Beer Garden showcasing the Downtown area’s finest local breweries
- Special SOMOS programs, events and deals from Downtown’s brick and mortar businesses
Visit Albuquerque is sponsoring a SOMOS contest for both locals and those located outside the Albuquerque metro area. For those out of town, people are invited to enter at http://www.visitalbuquerque.org/somos to win a 2-night hotel stay for four at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque, four passes to SOMOS, four passes to the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway, and a Visa gift card for $200 to go toward airfare, gas, or shopping. Albuquerque locals are encouraged to share the contest on their social media using the hashtag #SOMOSsweepstakes. One winner will be selected for a night’s stay at Hotel Andaluz the evening of the event and two expedited entry passes to SOMOS.
