STAR WARS MINUTE Awakens: Popular Podcast Starts Up Again with Episode VII
NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Co-hosts Alex Robinson and Pete The Retailer today officially debuted their seventh season of Star Wars Minute – the remarkably obsessive podcast that The Ringer called "a savvy response to podcast saturation that satisfies our craving for diversion."
The season kicks off with a half-hour discussion about the first minute of the film (the opening titles) and will proceed through the rest of 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, one minute at a time. "In some ways these guys are performing exegesis on Star Wars, giving it the careful line reading that a biblical scholar might do to Genesis," said the AV Club in 2014.
Their discussions address behind-the-scenes info and fan theories, but most importantly, feature plenty of jokes. Previous seasons have seen a variety of guest commentators, from comedians such as Paul Scheer and Doug Benson to musician Chrysanthe Tan and New Yorker cartoonist Joe Dator. "All appearances to the contrary, we try not to take the movies too seriously," Robinson explains. "We describe ourselves as 'hardcore casual' fans. We love Star Wars, warts and all, and try to be positive even when we're poking fun at the franchise."
Listeners can find the series at StarWarsMinute.com as well as on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, and all major podcast platforms. A new episode is released each weekday, meaning Alex Robinson and Pete The Retailer will take approximately six months, about 70 hours of airtime, to fully analyze the 139 minutes of The Force Awakens.
AN INSPIRATION
Star Wars Minute debuted in 2013 and quickly inspired a mini-genre of "movies by minute" shows, covering everything from The Shining to Back to the Future to Mean Girls. MoviesByMinutes.com currently lists over a hundred such podcasts, but the co-hosts see the other "MxM" shows as a community rather than competition. "It's amazing that this silly thing we started on a whim has inspired so many people to give podcasting a try," said Pete The Retailer.
2017 saw the first MxM fest in Chicago, which proved so popular that it has become an annual event.
