The 2020 iaedp™ Symposium is slated for March 26-29 at the Omni at ChampionsGate in Orlando. The four-day conference event, now in its 34th year, will deliver the latest in education and research for eating disorders treatment to the nearly 1,000 expected to attend. On Saturday, March 28th, two keynote presentations will offer forward-thinking perspectives that promise to deliver unique messages.

The four-day conference event, now in its 34th year, will deliver the latest in education and research for eating disorders treatment to the nearly 1,000 expected to attend.
On Saturday, March 28th, two keynote presentations will offer forward-thinking perspectives that promise to deliver unique messages.
At 10:30 a.m., Gina Barreca, PhD will offer her perspective on the eating disorders treatment field through humor. Her books include the bestselling They Used to Call Me Snow White But I Drifted: Women's Strategic Use of Humor, It's Not That I'm Bitter, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Visible Panty Lines and Conquered the World, If You Lean In Will the Men Just Look Down Your Blouse? and Babes in Boyland: A Personal History of Coeducation in the Ivy League. Of the other six books Dr. Barreca has written or co-written, several have been translated into to other languages, including Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese and German. Her latest book is If You Lean In Will the Men Just Look Down Your Blouse? is filled with insight, lessons, comfort and confessions and challenges women to come together and speak up.
At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, Annie Heiderscheit, PhD, MT-BC, FAMI, NMT and Ralph Carson, PhD, CEDRD will present "The Brain Comes Alive with the Sound of Music: Innovative Treatments for Eating Disorders Clients through Music Therapy."
Dr. Heiderscheit is a board certified music therapist with 18 years of clinical experience and degrees in music therapy, education, and counseling. She has completed advanced training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music and is a fellow through the Association for Music and Imagery. She also is trained in Neurological Music Therapy and is an endorsed facilitator with Remo in HealthRhythms Group Empowerment Drumming. Dr. Heiderscheit has conducted research utilizing guided imagery and music with adults in chemical dependency treatment and utilizing music to reduce stress and anxiety during mealtimes with eating disorder patients. She is collaborating on a research grant through the National Institutes of Health to study the use of music intervention to reduce sedation in mechanically ventilated patients. Heiderscheit has authored articles and book chapters on the use of music therapy in various settings. She is a graduate faculty member at the Center for Spirituality & Healing and clinical music therapist with The Emily Program.
Dr. Carson is a nutritionist and exercise physiologist with over 40 years of experience currently Senior Clinical and Scientific Advisor for the Eating Recovery Center and BED Program and a consultant for Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Center in Hattiesburg, MS. He is an active member on the iaedp™ board and author of The Brain Fix: What's the Matter with Your Gray Matter, over 20 scientific published articles and several textbook chapters. Dr Carson will review the research and literature on the use of music in therapy.
Early registration for the 2020 Symposium is open prior to December 21, 2019. Registration discounts include: for iaedp™ certified members, $650; for members, $700; for non-iaedp™ members, $775; for full-time students, $400; for retired registrants, $400; and for international registrants, $400. Discount rates for groups and one-day registrations also are available. Beginning December 22, 2019, all costs increase by $50. The art competition, "Imagine Me Beyond What You See," which announces the winners during the annual iaedp™ Symposium, will accept entries through December 15, 2019.
