Semper Investment Company Launches
New successor for business owner/operators
BOSTON, April 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Semper Investment Company announced today that they are commencing public operations. Semper acquires and operates businesses with at least $1 million of annual cash flow from retiring owner/operators. John Fox, the M&A leader who led over a dozen transactions to help execute Novanta's impressive turnaround, founded the firm and he's joined by a group of accomplished, mid-career business leaders who will to take over as CEOs. Semper buys profitable, growing companies and pursues long-term cash-flow growth.
Fox formed Semper because he believes many owner/operators are challenged to find a successor who can build upon their accomplishments and dislike the outcomes that often come with selling to a strategic acquirer or traditional private equity firm. "Even though they are selling, most owner/operators really care about the future of their business and its employees. They want fair value, but don't want employee layoffs, facility closings, wiping out their culture and their business being quickly resold. Semper is an honest and capable partner that builds on transitioning owners' success and helps preserve their legacy," he said. Fox and most of his partners are military veterans, and together with their experience leading and acquiring businesses, they think their military leadership experience gives them an advantage managing in challenging circumstances and connecting with employees.
In addition to founder- and family-owned businesses, Semper will invest in management buyouts and corporate carve-outs where values align with the management team. Semper focuses its outreach on niche manufacturers, business service providers and value-added distributors. Purchases are funded by Semper's team and by investments from a group of successful business people who help Semper grow its holdings. Fox says that Semper hopes to operate a handful of businesses for longer-term hold periods and that he expects significant opportunities resulting from retiring baby-boomers.
