WHY: This compelling documentary follows the highs and lows of Carr’s 170-mile paddle boarding expedition along New York’s Hudson River to draw attention to plastic pollution in America. An environmental activist, adventurer, author and founder of non-profit organization Plastic Patrol, Carr is dedicated to exploring the globe on paddle boarding adventures, while using her journeys to capture important data that educates the public on environmental issues.
Following the screening, Lizzie Carr and Anantshree Chaturvedi will come together for a panel discussion. This evening will mark the joining of two individuals – a plastic manufacturer with an environmental activist – for the first time to unpack and demystify both sides of the plastic pollution problem and throw light on what we do after the plastic is collected and explore ways to solve the single use plastic crisis.
SIGNIFICANCE: The event highlights the importance of open and productive conversation around plastic pollution to help identify solutions. This is a compelling collaboration between a company renowned for creating recyclable and environmentally sourced plastic film and a leading global environmentalist. For Chaturvedi and Carr, the endeavor is an opportunity to demystify both sides of the plastic pollution problem, speak openly about the future of compostable and biodegradable plastic products, and work towards creating a world free from plastic waste. This event culminates with the UFlex Group announcing the launch of a global initiative designed to make the company part of a solution to keep plastic in the economy and out of the environment.
