Somnoware Joins Centers For Medicare And Medicaid Services (CMS) Interoperability Program
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (PRWEB) September 27, 2018 -- Somnoware, a leading provider of digital health software, has joined the Electronic Medical Documentation Interoperability (EMDI) program of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Becoming a part of this prestigious program is testimony to the company’s commitment to reduce cost and enable superior healthcare by fostering greater interoperability.
The EMDI program supports the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) standards and interoperability programs. EMDI facilitates and expands the secure electronic exchange of health information among organizations in accordance with nationally recognized standards. The program aims to reduce administrative burden for providers, increase interoperability among systems and organizations across the public and private sectors, and improve provider-to-provider communication. EMDI stakeholders include hospitals, physicians, Durable Medical Equipment (DME) suppliers, health information handlers, health information service providers, health information exchanges, document transfer vendors, interface vendors, electronic health records, electronic medical records, home health agencies, laboratories, and other healthcare organizations.
As a part of this program, Somnoware will pilot an implementation that provides secure exchange of health information and end-to-end integration using the Health Level Seven (HL7) protocol. This integration allows physicians to place an order for a Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) system, send relevant order details and medical information to DME companies, allow these companies to request additional documentation, and provide the ability to sign and date the document. This demonstration will enable the development of standards and implementation guides containing the content specifications and transport specifications needed to implement EMDI. It will demonstrate an automated process that can reduce administrative burden, decrease audit process time, expedite services, improve the transaction processing rate, and improve provider-to-provider communication.
“Somnoware is relentlessly pushing forward interoperability between software systems, medical devices, insurance companies, and care providers,” says Subath Kamalasan, CEO of Somnoware. “Our goal is to deliver a 360 degree, real-time view of the patient to healthcare providers so they can provide superior care at a fraction of the cost and reach millions more.”
The company offers the industry’s leading respiratory healthcare management platform that integrates with over 150 software systems and devices. The platform is currently used by one in five pulmonologists in the United States. Physicians get instant access to diagnostic test data, e-signature capability, one-click DME ordering, PAP compliance data, and the ability to conduct end-to-end patient care management. Diagnostic test centers can automate their complete workflow including scheduling at multiple centers, inventory management, automated reporting, therapy ordering, and accreditation. Using Somnoware, customers are able to reduce time to diagnosis by up to 80% resulting in significant reduction in cost of care and increased provider capacity.
