Highlights of selected legislation covered in the newly updated protocol include:

• "Ordinance on Facilities for Handling Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV - Verordnung über Anlagen zum Umgang mit wassergefährdenden Stoffen)" repealed and replaced the Ordinance of the same name, as well as the "Administrative Order for the Classification of Substances Hazardous to Water into Water Hazard Classes" as of 1 August 2017. The Ordinance identifies and regulates requirements for a company or person storing, handling and/or using water pollutants.
• "Fourth Ordinance of the Federal Immission Control Act, (Vierte Verordnung zur Durchführung des Bundes-Immissionsschutzgesetzes (Verordnung über genehmigungsbedürftige Anlagen - 4. BImSchV))" repealed and replaced the Ordinance of the same name as of 31 May 2017. This Ordinance establishes which installations are subject to permitting requirements.
• "Ordinance on Waste Management Officers, (Abfallbeauftragtenverordnung - AbfBeauftrV)" replaced the Ordinance of the same name as of 1 June 2017. The Ordinance specifies which facilities require a waste management officer and the duties of the officer.
• "Ordinance on the Treatment of Sludge, (Klärschlammverordnung – - AbfKlärV)" repealed and replaced the Ordinance of the same name as of 3 October 2017. The Ordinance regulates the disposal of sludge from water treatment facilities for agricultural purposes on farmland and in gardens.
• "Ordinance on the Management of Municipal Wastes of Commercial Origin and Certain Construction and Demolition Wastes, (Gewerbeabfallverordnung - GewAbfV)" repealed and replaced the Ordinance of the same name as of 1 August 2017. This Ordinance requires separation of commercial waste at the point of generation to prevent municipal wastes of commercial origin from being disposed rather than recycled or reused.
• "Ordinance on Exemptions from Regulations on Hazardous Materials Transport, (Gefahrgut- Ausnahmeverordnung - GGAV)" repealed and replaced the Ordinance of the same name as of 18 February 2016. The Ordinance provides for exemptions from the hazardous waste transport requirements which apply to transport by road, railroad, and/or ship.
• "Ordinance on the Monitoring of POPs Containing Wastes (POP-Abfall-Überwachungs- Verordnung – POP-Abfall-ÜberwV)" was newly added to the Protocol to implement the "European Ordinance (EC) 850/2004" regarding the disposal of POPs containing wastes and precise the obligations for the wastes generator.
• "Technical Rule on Hazardous Substances 201, (TRGS 201)" repealed and replaced the Technical Rule of the same name as of 2 February 2017. This Rule provides requirements on the classification and the labeling of hazardous substances.
• "Ordinance on Protection against Electromagnetic Fields (Arbeitsschutzverordnung zu elektromagnetischen Feldern (EMFV)), 15 November 2016," was newly added to the Protocol. This Ordinance provides requirements regarding the employee's protection against electromagnetic fields at the workplace, including exposure limit values and action levels values as well as the obligations of the employer.
• "Technical Rule for Hazardous Substances No. 201, (TRGS 201)," repealed and replaced the Rules of the same name as of 2 February 2017. This Rule provides guidance on the labeling of hazardous substances.
• "Technical Rule for Hazardous Substances No. 220, (TRGS 220), 16 January 2017," was newly added to the Protocol. This Rule provides guidance on creating Safety Data Sheets.
• "Technical Rule for Hazardous Substances No. 905, (TRGS 905), 14 March 2016," was newly added to the Protocol. This Rule contains a list of substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction.
• "Regulation (EU) 2017/852 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2017 on Mercury" repealed and replaced "Regulation (EC) No 1102/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2008 on the Banning of Exports of Metallic Mercury and Certain Mercury Compounds and Mixtures and the Safe Storage of Metallic Mercury with effect from 1 January 2018." This Regulation provides requirements regarding the import of metallic mercury.
• "H & S Rules for Construction Site Workplaces – RAB 30 – 33 (Verordnung über Sicherheit und Gesundheitsschutz auf Baustellen - BaustellV), 27 March 2003" was newly added to the Protocol to provide more specific details to support the Ordinance on Safety and Health at Construction Sites.
