Studies Weekly Celebrates Employee's Outstanding Achievement in Education
OREM, Utah (PRWEB) June 27, 2023 -- Studies Weekly, a nationwide curriculum company dedicated to providing innovative educational resources to elementary schools across the country, is proud to announce that one of its employees, Laurel Aguilar-Kirchhoff, has been honored with a “20 to Watch Award” from the The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), a nonprofit focused on accelerating innovation in education.
The ISTE “20 to Watch Award” award recognizes up-and-coming individuals who both deliberately plan for and apply technology to improve the educational setting, continuously improve through the exploration of new techniques, and exemplify excellence through projects or artifacts that others can replicate.
“I am beyond humbled and honored to be recognized by such a prestigious educational institution as ISTE. This recognition means a lot to me as an educator who has been working to ‘do what's best for kids’ for over 20 years,” Aguilar-Kirchhoff said. “This recognition is also important for the teaching community as a whole. Educators work very hard and believe passionately in what we are doing to help educate our students. I share this honor with all of my fellow educators out there.”
“Studies Weekly is honored to have Laurel on its staff and congratulates her on receiving this prestigious award,” said Barbara Lane, social studies curriculum director at Studies Weekly and Aguilar-Kirchhoff’s immediate supervisor.
As a middle school curriculum specialist at Studies Weekly, Aguilar-Kirchhoff has consistently demonstrated a desire to help students.
“My goals as an educator have always been to help students realize their potential, reduce barriers, and increase access to quality education,” said Aguilar-Kirchhoff. “ISTE, through educational pedagogy like the ISTE Standards, has provided a pathway for meaningful learning for our students.”
Aguilar-Kirchhoff's achievements not only reflect her individual excellence but also highlights the commitment of Studies Weekly to increase student knowledge and skills in Social Studies, Science, and Health & Wellness.
“Studies Weekly has shown support for my goals as an educator and also my volunteer work such as being a Community Leader for ISTE, on the National History Day-California Leadership Team and presenting at conferences such as National Council for the Social Studies,” said Aguilar-Kirchhoff. “I appreciate the kind words and camaraderie that I feel as part of the Studies Weekly Middle School Team.”
“It is a pleasure to see Laurel receive this award. We are extremely privileged to have Laurel as a member of our Studies Weekly Middle School curriculum team,” said John McCurdy, CEO of Studies Weekly.
Aguilar-Kirchhoff co-authored the book "Bring History and Civics to Life: Lessons and Strategies to Cultivate Informed, Empathetic Citizens." This book was written to draw clear connections between history, civics, community, and technology to help students gain a deeper understanding of democratic processes and civic engagement.
She also serves in a voluntary capacity as an ISTE Community Leader and locally with Inland Area CUE (Computer Using Teachers),has served on the State Leadership Team for National History Day-California since 2019, and is an instructor for the graduate-level course through ISTE-U, "Digital Citizenship in Action.” All of these accomplishments put her at the forefront of the education industry and qualify her for recognition from the ISTE.
“I believe in the mission of ISTE to help educators use technology to revolutionize learning,” said Laurel. “It is my hope that this recognition will help to show the potential of how we can ‘think outside the box’ in education to make learning meaningful and accessible for all of our students.”
