Perris Working Scholars Provides a Flexible, No-Cost Pathway to a Degree
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Study.com has partnered with Duke Realty and Perris, Calif. to launch the Perris Working Scholars program, giving 150 residents living and working in the City of Perris the opportunity to earn a free bachelor's degree entirely online. Duke Realty is funding the entire cost of the program so there's no out-of-pocket costs for students.
Over 90% of Perris residents over the age of 25 do not have a college degree. With its flexible online environment, Working Scholars makes earning a bachelor's degree attainable for Perris residents without crippling student debt.
"We develop a substantial amount of industrial logistics facilities in Southern California cities like Perris and wanted to find an impactful way to give back to the community," said Chris Burns, Senior Vice President of Duke Realty's Southern California operations. "Working Scholars is the perfect way to help drive economic mobility within the city by helping residents pursue higher education and reach new career goals."
Participants earn the majority of college credit online through Study.com, which offers nearly 200 courses that have been recommended for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE). Credits then transfer to Thomas Edison State University (TESU), an accredited public university, where students complete final degree requirements online and earn their bachelor's degree.
"Higher education unfortunately remains out of reach for so many because they can't afford the skyrocketing costs or don't have a way to balance traditional college with other obligations," said Adrian Ridner, CEO and Co-founder of Study.com. "Not only is the Working Scholars program completely free for participants, but its online format is specifically tailored to nontraditional students trying to balance school and work. Study.com courses are broken down in to 5-minute video lessons that can be accessed anytime, anywhere via computer, mobile phone or tablet. Participants also have the support of Study.com success coaches, who help motivate students throughout the process and map out a degree plan.
All residents with a GED or high school diploma who live and work in the City of Perris are eligible to apply for Perris Working Scholars.

In addition to Perris Working Scholars, the City of Perris also recently partnered with Study.com to create Perris Civic Scholars, which gives City of Perris employees the opportunity to earn no-cost college degrees.
