Surwon Technology Says Graphene Tire IP Not for Sale
Surwon Technology - Moves to dampen speculation on potential sale of intellectual property on graphene enhanced tire.
HONG KONG, Nov. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hong Kong-based advanced materials innovator, Surwon Technology has vehemently denied that it is considering the sale of intellectual property rights to its graphene-enhanced rubber compound to a major tire manufacturer.
The company has completed a slew of extensive tests of wet-weather racing tires with an unnamed rubber products manufacturer which had been considering entering Formula One as a competitor to the sport's sole supplier, Pirelli in the 2020 season. Those plans have since been postponed according to a spokesperson at Surwon Technology.
"We managed to gather some extremely useful data during our testing partnership," said Surwon Technology's Chief Technology Officer. "Some of that data may have made its way into the public domain and consequently, we find ourselves, once again, having to dampen down conjecture driven by unsubstantiated rumors."
"To reiterate, we are not considering the sale of the intellectual property rights to the graphene-enhanced rubber compound at this time, not least because we have an arrangement with our testing partner. Of course, we appreciate the value that the advancement in aquaplaning performance and water dispersal the compound has demonstrated could have for commercially-sold road tires but, even if we were mulling a sale, we would need to conduct additional testing to be sure that the compound's long term durability would help justify what we imagine could be a considerable premium over conventional road tires," explained the Surwon Technology Chief Technology Officer.
The company has made a number of important breakthroughs in graphene technology and recently dispatched a team of representatives to Osaka, Japan to consult on deployment of a graphene-reinforced concrete at a forthcoming real estate development project.
