TREASURE VALLEY SCORE Celebrates 50 Years, 4 Star Level for Service Excellence Award
Treasure Valley Score has helped thousands of Boise small businesses over half a century and continues with expanded, award-winning services that are offered free of charge for aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners. Skilled mentors assist with HR matters, social media, marketing, business management training, grants, developing business plans, and more.
BOISE, Idaho, March 22, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- TREASURE VALLEY SCORE celebrates being a part of the local small business community for 50 years. Formed in April of 1971, the office was established as a volunteer organization and resource partner of the Small Business Administration (SBA) within the Idaho Regional SBA office. While the initial focus was on mentoring new businesses and providing information to help owners understand how to best organize their business for success, work has expanded to include group workshops and online webinars.
It is estimated that over the last 50 years, local volunteers have assisted more than 8,000 businesses and supported the formation and existence of more than 16,000 jobs. These services have been offered at no cost to business owners.
"Treasure Valley Score's mission is to assist entrepreneurs," says TREASURE VALLEY SCORE Chapter Chair Lyra Manning. "Each small business requires some assistance either at the start-up phase and/or as their business changes over time. We, along with the additional expertise of our national organization of Chapter members, help many businesses gain the footing needed to successfully establish and grow a small business. Our mentors assist these new businesses with HR matters, marketing, business management training, grants, developing business plans, and more."
Many of the chapter members are military veterans and in 2010, TREASURE VALLEY SCORE helped initiate the Boots 2 Business workshop program at Mountain Home Air Force Base. The two-day workshop provided business fundamentals to service personnel interested in starting a small business. The workshops were presented every-other-month until 2018. During that time, 720 service personnel attended.
This year, the national office of SCORE, "Mentors to America's Small Business," honors TREASURE VALLEY SCORE with the 4 star level for outstanding performance in 2020. The District 1087 - Idaho Chapter of the Year 2020 award recognizes TREASURE VALLEY SCORE for achieving the highest level of yearly national service excellence in support of local small businesses.
In 2020, the chapter's volunteers provided free face-to-face mentoring and low-cost workshops and webinars for more than 600 aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners. The office has expanded its offering to a full schedule of business webinars covering: the use of social media, website design, marketing, business plan preparation, and other business basics.
The former and current volunteers of TREASURE VALLEY SCORE are proud of their many contributions that have led to the growth and success of the Idaho Business Community as well as the recent award.
"We are honored to receive recognition from the national office of SCORE," says Manning. "Our 35 volunteers have a passion for business and more than 1000 years of combined and varied experience. They are committed to the success of western and central Idaho small businesses. I am extremely proud that our team has been able to have a positive impact on the community during these challenging economic times."
TREASURE VALLEY SCORE looks forward to the next 50 years and to helping additional businesses start, grow, and provide valuable employment opportunities throughout western and central Idaho.
