TeVido BioDevices Announces Availability of TruPigment™ for use in restoring lost skin color
TruPigment™ enables physicians to provide skin cell transplants without making costly investment in equipment and specialized skills.
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- TeVido BioDevices (TeVido), a leader in regenerative medicine for repairing loss of pigmentation, today announced commercial availability of their lead product TruPigment™(autologous non-cultured epidermal cell suspension). TeVido processes a sample of a patient's healthy living cells to create TruPigment™ which is then used in a skin cell transplant procedure. TruPigment™ is custom made for each person. Only the person who gave the skin sample can use the TruPigment™ made from that sample. Your skin, your cells, your color!
Skin can lose its natural color (pigment) due to skin conditions, such as vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin condition characterized by the appearance of white patches on any part of the body, such as the face, hands and arms. There is no cure, and it can be psychologically devastating. For many people with vitiligo, the white patches begin to appear before age 20, and often start in early childhood. It is estimated that vitiligo affects up to 1.0% of the population. Skin cell transplants are a known treatment option for vitiligo patients with stable disease. Yet they are underutilized due to the challenges of processing the living cells for transplantation. TeVido BioDevices is making these life changing skin cell transplants available to doctors and the patients who need them.
"TeVido's mission has always been about helping patients to feel "whole" again," said Laura Bosworth, TeVido CEO. "As we developed our processing techniques to re-pigment the nipple areola lost due to breast cancer, we realized the procedure could benefit patients with vitiligo. TeVido has partnerships coming online with leading research hospitals, bringing hope to those affected by vitiligo, while we expand treatment options to include areola re-pigmentation and scarring."
Skin cell transplants are underutilized due to the time, cost, complexity and regulatory burdens of its preparation. By creating a centralized processing facility, TeVido addresses the common barriers clinics face to offering pigment cell (melanocyte) transplants to patients that could benefit from this treatment. In addition to vitiligo, cell transplants have been used for other causes of depigmentation, providing an opportunity to expand clinical services.
