Texas Center for Employee Ownership Begins Inaugural Year and Introduces First Board of Directors
A nonprofit organization dedicated to educating business owners on employee ownership benefits launches in Texas
HOUSTON, Mar. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Texas Center for Employee Ownership (TXCEO.org), an independent member of the Employee Ownership Expansion Network (EOXnetwork.org), is thrilled to announce its official launch in the Lone Star State. A nonprofit organization dedicated to educating business owners on employee ownership benefits, TXCEO's mission is to expand the awareness and benefits of employee ownership opportunities, including Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), worker cooperatives, and Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs).
Serving businesses throughout Texas, the creation of TXCEO provides resources, case studies, articles, and a database of providers to assist with transitions of businesses to employee ownership. Throughout the coming year, TXCEO will provide learning opportunities to business leaders, attorneys, wealth managers, accountants, and other trusted business advisors as they consider moving to an employee-owner business model.
"We feel that now is a key moment for businesses in Texas, and the time is right for launching the TXCEO. There are approximately 163,000 businesses in Texas that are owned by baby boomers. With the damaging effects of COVID-19, many of them face a transition of ownership or potential closure. Over 2 million Texas employees are affected by this situation," said Steven Storkan, Executive Director of EOX. "We know that conversion to an employee ownership model is not right for every business owner. However, it is a powerful option that business owners should not overlook due to a lack of information. By providing tools and resources to organizations in Texas considering to embark on this transition, TXCEO
can quickly engage with business owners looking to shift to an employee-owned structure and assist them in the journey."
The following ESOP professionals serve on the TXCEO organizational board and are responsible for upholding the organization's mission to expand employee ownership throughout the state:
- Steve Storkan – Co-Chair and Executive Director at EOX
- Jennifer Krieger – Co-Chair and Director at Weaver
- Mark Russell – Treasurer and Head of Finance at SES ESOP Strategies
- Stephie Althouse – Secretary and CEO at ESOP.io
- Laurie-Leigh White – Board Member and Partner at BVA Group
- Anthony Eppert – Board Member and Partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth, LLP
"Employee ownership increases engagement, dedication, and ingenuity, which are key to business success, especially during this uncertain time when businesses must respond quickly to change," stated Jennifer Krieger, Board Co-Chair. "I'm thrilled to be part of the TXCEO organization and help to communicate the positive message of employee ownership."
