The Bridge Forum Announces 'Next Generation' Panel Featuring Three Police Departments
Young Leaders in Mesa, Tempe and Scottsdale Law Enforcement Discuss Efforts to Improve Community Initiatives
PHOENIX, Sept. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The HeroZona Foundation is excited to announce a special panel of the Bridge Forum, "Young Voices Leading the Change," during which a panel of young Arizona law enforcement and community leaders will discuss best practices for improving community initiatives and relations. The event will take place Monday, Sept. 27 from 8 to 10 a.m. at The Saguaro Scottsdale (4000 N. Drinkwater Blvd). The invitation-only event is supported by the NAACP East Valley Branch, Greater Phoenix Urban League, Black Chamber of Arizona, African American Christian Clergy Association, 100 Black Men of Phoenix and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Phoenix. The forum will also be livestreamed to the public at Facebook.com/HeroZonaOrg/Live.
Event panelists include Mesa Police Department Officers Richard Ensinas and Anthony Stockton, Scottsdale Police Department Officers Derick Fluellen and Margaret Diaz, Tempe Police Department Officers Lindsey Fernandez and Steve Carbajal, NAACP East Valley Branch Representative Kiana Sears, Greater Phoenix Urban League Young Professionals Representative Jerry McPherson, Black Chamber of Arizona President and CEO Robin Reed, African American Christian Clergy Association Representative John Talley III, 100 Black Men of Phoenix Representative Rabbanni FurQaan and NCBW 100 Phoenix Metropolitan Chapter Representative Donna Williams.

The event will be moderated by the President & CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association, National Director of the Million Man March, and Assistant to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. Dr. Chavis first received international recognition in 1971 as the leader of the Wilmington Ten, when he was wrongfully convicted of committing arson and received the longest sentence before winning his appeal in 1980.
Special guests of the event include U.S. Representative for Arizona's 6th Congressional District David Schweikert and Maricopa County District 2 Supervisor Steve Chucri.

In January 2018, the Scottsdale Police Department implemented 29 new initiatives from the 2017 Scottsdale Bridge Forum, which included establishing sufficient resources for police personnel dealing with trauma, establishing dialogue opportunities with under-served communities, enhancing engagement with the community's youth and identifying ways to address the needs of the community related to behavioral health.
