The Crossvine, City of Schertz, Schertz Fire Department Celebrate Fire Station #3 Grand Opening
Official Event to Happen on November 9.
SCHERTZ, Texas, Nov. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On November 9 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., the City of Schertz and the Schertz Fire Department will celebrate the grand opening of Fire Station #3, the city's newest fire station built to serve the growing southern Schertz community and The Crossvine, a mixed-use, master-planned community nestled in southern Schertz. Located at 11917 Lower Seguin in Schertz, TX, the station's grand opening follows the groundbreaking event that took place November 2018.
The City of Schertz will commemorate the opening of Fire Station #3 with a fire hose uncoupling ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. and an open house to follow. Attendees can enjoy giveaways, station tours, demo stations, bounce houses and more. A light lunch will be provided, and parking will be available at Rose Garden Elementary where shuttles to the fire station will run every 10 minutes beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The 14,000 square-foot facility allows the Schertz Fire Department to avoid the many railroad and highway crossings that previously created barriers for crews trying to reach emergency sites from the two existing stations in Schertz. With their third and newest station fully open and operating, Schertz firefighters are optimistically aiming to cut response times in half.

"This will be a beautiful station that will serve our community for many years to come. The city's newest fire station houses a variety of equipment, such as a brush truck, a new engine, one reserve engine, and standard fire equipment. The station's new engine, which started being utilized in 2018, has a full array of EMS equipment and enables the station to provide first response medical care for rescue, hazmat and other all-hazard situations in the area.
Additional features include full living quarters for 12 firefighters, offices for staff, a radio/watch office, and a 1,500square-foot community meeting room. Open to the general public, the room will fit 40-50 people and was designed for neighborhood groups and governmental agencies to hold public meetings free of charge. Schertz residents can call the Fire Department Administration Office at (210) 619-1300 to reserve the room.
In 2017, Schertz City Council voted to purchase land at The Crossvine for a new fire station using a previously-approved $4 million bond. After undergoing an extensive research process to investigate different site options in southern Schertz, the city determined The Crossvine location met all their needs and would best serve the area. Having secured approval from City Council, the City of Schertz negotiated with Schertz 1518 Ltd., the master developer of The Crossvine, to bring a station just southwest of FM 1518.

Construction of the new station was provided by Byrne Construction Services, and the state-of-the-art building was designed by BRW Architects, an architecture firm with extensive experience designing over 130 Fire/EMS facilities across the state of Texas. The BRW Architects design team worked with input from Schertz 1518 Ltd. to create a station that would complement The Crossvine's goals of healthy living and neighborhood connectivity while ensuring the station would fit within the architectural aesthetic of the community.
The completed station is just one of many community-facing services planned for The Crossvine; future plans for the area include shops, offices and restaurants, all connected by a trail and parks network, to serve residents at The Crossvine and Schertz as a whole. Additionally, garden homes and townhomes will soon join the growing number of single-family homes already in the 540-acre community.
