The Journey Continues for Kingsbarns Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Kingsbarns Single Malt Scotch Retires its 'Dream to Dram' Expression and Proudly Introduces its Newest Additions** to the US market, Flagship "Doocot" and "Balcomie"
NEW YORK, March 2, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- After being named "World's Best Lowlands Single Malt" by the World Whisky Awards in 2020 and 2022 for its original flagship single malt 'Dream to Dram', Kingsbarns proudly introduces its newest release, taking the mantle for the flagship expression: "Doocot", and "Balcomie" which are launching globally in 30+ markets.
Founded in 2014 by the Scottish Wemyss Family, who have a longstanding passion for malt whisky dating back to the turn of the 19th century, Kingsbarns Distillery is proud to claim its stake amongst a young and upcoming community of distillers in the UK releasing non-age statement, non-chill filtered single malts.
At Kingsbarns Distillery, the Wemyss family understands and carefully nurtures the character of their light and floral spirit, only releasing bottlings once they're ready according to flavor, balance, and complexity. All products have a long fermentation and slow distillation in copper pot stills. The intricate process is managed by Isabella Wemyss, Director of Production, who hand-selects all casks and oversees the production of these outstanding bottles.
'Dream to Dram' was the distillery's first highly popular and multi-award-winning expression, earning praise for its distinctive light and fruity character. Now that the whisky has had time to further mature, the expression will be retired on the coattails of the newest introductions to the core collection, representing the evolution and next stage in the brand's journey. The Core Collection now includes two single malts: the flagship expression Doocot, an ex-Bourbon and Shaved, Toasted and Recharred barriques matured expression, and Balcomie, an ex-Oloroso cask matured expression.
The Scots word for dovecot, the name, Doocot, pays tribute to one of the most striking architectural features at the Kingsbarns Distillery. Pronounced 'doo-ket', a doocot was a traditional free-standing nesting shelter for doves, which are reflected and embossed on the glass bottle. Distilled from barley sourced less than six miles from the Kingsbarns Distillery, the flagship single malt has enjoyed a longer maturation in a carefully selected combination of casks: 90% ex-Bourbon and 10% STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) ex-Portuguese red wine casks. Full of sweet, fruity character, the whisky is light, intensely fruity, floral, and complemented by a rich color.
"Doocot has been years in the making. We've spent a lot of time perfecting the distilling process to make sure we've crafted the perfect finish," says William Wemyss, Founder and Managing Director of Kingsbarns Distillery. "We're so proud of the end result that Doocot now stands as our flagship whisky, taking over the mantle from Dream to Dram. The new addition to our range allows whisky lovers to enjoy the same fruity and indulgent flavors that they're used to but with an added level of balance and complexity. As we transition into the warmer months, Doocot is the perfect refreshing, fruity dram that is guaranteed to take whisky fans on a stunning flavor journey – we hope customers love it as much as we do."
Distilled from Fife-grown barley, Kingsbarns Balcomie is a fruity, light, and balanced whisky bottled from 100% ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The liquid has been matured in American oak casks previously used for maturing Oloroso in the unique solera system. These casks were specifically chosen for their gentle oak flavors and rich sweetness to complement the fruity character of the spirit. Sweetly complex and elegant, Balcomie is rich with baking spices, dried fruit, and tropical character.
Kingsbarns Doocot & Balcomie will be available at select retailers nationwide, at an SRP of $59.99 for each 750ml at 46% ABV. To learn more about Kingsbarns Single Malt Scotch Whisky, please visit http://www.kingsbarnsdistillery.com and follow us on Instagram at @kingsbarnsdistillery

About Kingsbarns Single Malt Scotch Whisky:
The story of Kingsbarns Single Malt Scotch Whisky begins with the conversion of a historic and semi-derelict farm steading into a distillery. Originally an agricultural settlement, the origins of the Kingsbarns name comes from the area being the location of the barns used to store grain before being moved to Falkland Palace, a historic royal residence of Kings and Queens, just a few miles away. Proudly independent and quietly determined, Kingsbarns Distillery produces beautifully made Lowland single malts, in their own way. Made with locally grown barley and their own water source, the foundation of their whisky is their new make spirit. Mindful of balance, Kingsbarns pairs the spirit with the wood, marrying it with selected casks in line with the distillery's Wood Policy.
The Kingsbarns team aims to make the distillery as green as possible with sustainability efforts at the forefront of production. Wastewater goes through reed beds and is returned clean into the local burn; local farmers use waste as fertilizer, and spent grain is used as cattle feed on neighboring farms.
Kingsbarns is part of the Wemyss Family Portfolio of Spirits, producers of the highly awarded Wemyss Malts (The Hive, Spice King, Peat Chimney), Single Casks, & Darnley's Gin.
