The New York Space Alliance Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 with Google Cloud for Startups
The New York Space Alliance (NYSA) in collaboration with Google Cloud for Startups, with support from NASA, NOVUS, and the Storm Group, organized an event to celebrate Fifty Years of Apollo 11. Two major initiatives that will leverage the momentum for space entrepreneurial activities in collaboration with NASA and create a permanent forum for discussions around space business and finance in New York were announced as part of the festivities.
NEW YORK, July 29, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The New York Space Alliance (NYSA) in collaboration with Google Cloud for Startups, with support from NASA, NOVUS, and the Storm Group, organized an event to celebrate Fifty Years of Apollo 11, the historic moon landing mission during which Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on another world.
Some of the highlights included discussions with astronauts Yvonne Cagle and Charlie Camarda about the legacy of Apollo 11, a showcase of space startups, the launch of FIRST WOMAN with Kunal Sood founder of NOVUS, and a keynote address from the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés.
NYSA also recognized the contribution of individuals working to promote space in supporting the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In addition to Sood, Camarda and his fellow astronaut Ron Garan, together with Anousheh Ansari, private space explorer and CEO of XPRIZE, and the "Overview Effect" author Frank White, shared their perspectives about the connection between Earth and space and were granted the inaugural NYSA Award.

As part of a Space Act Agreement signed in 2018, NASA and NYSA launched the second phase of the program "Creating Startups with NASA Technology," which will empower entrepreneurs to provide solutions to NASA. "We look forward to tapping the startup and innovation ecosystem in New York that align with our current and future space missions," said Steven González, Technology Transfer Strategist, NASA Johnson Space Center, who represented the space agency at the event.
In conjunction with the celebratory event, the New York Space Alliance Space Business Roundtable (NYSA-SBR) held its inaugural forum with space sector leaders in New York. NYSA-SBR's main goal is to bridge the gap between the space sector and the business and financial communities. "The initiative builds on the excitement generated by recent developments and new opportunities for investment in commercial space ventures," affirmed Joseph Fargnoli, COO and Co-Founder of the New York Space Alliance.
