HOUSTON, July 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Sturge-Weber Foundation (SWF) is now accepting applications for its 2020 Research Grant Program. SWF invites all qualified scientists at universities, hospitals and research institutions (not for profit or profit) to submit applications to SWF that supports research to improve the quality of life for people with Sturge-Weber syndrome.

Research priorities for this Grant Program are:

  • Studies of Disease Mechanism
  • Use of Novel Technologies
  • Biomarkers and Treatments
  • Cutting Edge and Translational Science
  • Innovations in Clinical Practice and Care
  • Understanding and Alleviating Disease Burden

To follow is a summary of available 2020 Grants:

  • Engagement Research Grants of $5K each – for emerging investigators intended to explore a new research concept, pilot a new experiment, undertake a novel or secondary data analysis, SWS Registry investigations and data mining
  • 1 $30K or 2 $15K Lisa's Catalyst Research Grant(s) – a special grant which began in 2016 to honor a patient with SWS. Candidates may be post-doctoral (M.D. or Ph.D.) faculty members or newly appointed Junior faculty members

Information requirements to be considered in this Grant Program are as follows:

  • Current bio-sketch in NIH format from both the applicant and his/her mentor
  • Four page proposal including: Title; Specific Aim; How Award Will Advance SWF's Mission; Background and Significance; Research Strategy; Brief Summary of Training Plan
  • Letter of support from one mentor detailing support and commitment to the applicant and the propose research and training plan
  • Must be submitted as a single PDF file
