Recently, President Joe Biden appointed UVA professor in the Biocomplexity Institute, Catherine Woteki, to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. His trust in Woteki speaks to the caliber of educators that have guided this year's awardees towards their successes. Alumni Mark Straub of Smile Identity is building tools and software for online identification for banks, telecoms, financial services and shared economy applications in Africa and beyond. Others like Tyler Scriven of Saltbox are using their innovative ideas to develop breakthrough technologies in logistics services and warehousing, providing end users with a seamless delivery experience.
