The Web Conference Brings Together More Than One Thousand Scientists, Researchers, Policy Makers, and Industry Leaders to San Francisco to Map the Future of the Web
Event marks the 30th anniversary of the Web with keynotes, special tracks, over 350 accepted research papers and more than 50 workshops and tutorials.
SAN FRANCISCO, May 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The annual Web Conference (https://www2019.thewebconf.org/), the world's leading and longest standing conference on the technology behind the World Wide Web, will take place in San Francisco, May 13-17, 2019. The 2019 edition will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Web at a time where more than 50% of the world's population is connected. The event will provide a forum for more than 1,500 industry professionals, researchers, policy makers, developers, and other practitioners to reflect on, discuss and debate the evolution of the Web, and its impact on society and culture while identifying future opportunities and research directions that can help us create a Web that is open, safe, inclusive, and balanced: a Web for good.
This year's conference features prominent keynotes by Senior Google Fellow, Jeff Dean, TED Fellow and founder of First Draft, Claire Wardle, and the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, Lawrence Lessig. The conference keynote speakers will frame the role of the Web in solving some of the biggest challenges we face globally. Jeff Dean will highlight how the widely popular TensorFlow system, designed to easily express machine learning ideas and train, evaluate and deploy machine learning systems, can be used to solve the National Academy of Engineering's Grand Engineering Challenges for the 21st Century. Claire Wardle will outline the need to build a healthier Web information commons to deal with online misinformation and improve collective decision-making. Lawrence Lessig will introduce the third phase of internet, the surveillance phase, and the threats it can bring to society and our democracies in the absence of better governance structures.
