YEREVAN, Armenia, Jan. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- At the beginning of January 2023, the Global Energy Association has opened the 20th receipt of applications for the same-name award. Nomination submissions in three categories – Conventional Energy, Non-Conventional Energy and New Ways of Energy Application – are to be accepted through April 20, 2023.
The Global Energy Prize is designed to honour energy research and scientific developments that make energy accessible to consumers and safer for the environment. Since 2002, 48 scientists from 15 countries have become laureates of the Prize. The Prize fund is USD 570,000.
In recent years, the geography of nominees for the Prize has expanded significantly. The 2022 long-list included 119 nominations from 43 countries. In 2019, there were 39 unique nominations from 12 countries.
The receipt of applications is the first stage of the nomination cycle. The nominations received will be submitted to independent experts for evaluation according to the fixed set of criteria, including scientific novelty and practical value. The fifteen entries (five in each category) receiving the highest average score will be shortlisted, and an independent International Award Committee led by Rae Kwon Chung, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate will select the winners.
"As the energy and climate crises are getting serious, the importance of energy science and technology gets ever more critical. The Global Energy Prize is eagerly looking forward to identifying groundbreaking innovations in energy science and technology," said Rae Kwon Chung
In compliance with the Association rules, self-nomination is prohibited. The initiation may come from scientists, researchers, and representatives of academic organisations ready to provide detailed justifications for the candidate's nomination, as well as the list of their key merits and scientific works.
