LONDON, June 4, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- What is acne and what causes acne?
Acne is the result of skin pores engorged with excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Unfortunately, when the pore swells enough to break the follicle wall it can lead to lesions. This can be temporary lesions which heal fast or if the infected material spills out onto the surrounding skin it can lead to deeper lesions. Your skin will naturally try and heal these wounds with new collagen fibers but unfortunately, these are not usually as smooth as your original skin and can show up as a different colour or texture, and that is how you end up with acne scars.

Acne scars are caused when there's a problem with the skin's healing process. During the healing process, the body produces collagen — a substance that gives the skin support. If the body produces too little or too much collagen, you will get a scar.
If there's too much collagen, the scar will be raised. This type of scar is more common in those with darker skin. If the skin produces too little collagen, depressions or pits form in the skin. This type of scar is more common in pale skin types.

What is the difference between acne and breakouts?
Acne can be categorized as mild, moderate or severe; a breakout, if presenting with a few whiteheads, a few blackheads and a few inflamed pores, it is actually mild acne. If you have 2-6 spots but no whiteheads or blackheads it can be considered a breakout. The important message in either case is that something is out of balance and it is highly likely in the gut and related to hormonal imbalance.

What is skin 'purging'? And how do I know if I have purging or acne?
Skin purging is the result of an increased rate of cell turnover in the skin; the accompanying shedding of dead cells, and other debris such as excess sebum, brings about blemishes such as whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules and in some cases cysts. While it is desirable to produce new skin cells faster, the debris must 'purge' before the new cells are able to make their way to the surface. Skin purging occurs in response to an active ingredient such as acid from a chemical peel or the application of a retinol or in response to retinoic medications prescribed for acne and aging skin. One simply looks to recently introduced products to ascertain if it is purging or acne. Skin rarely purges all by itself without any intervention.

What ingredients help cure/prevent acne?
There are many ways to tackle acne, and while the application of products such a tea tree oil or other essential oils like frankincense, can help a blemish resolve faster, my advice would be to follow a gentle, oil-free skincare regime twice daily; clean up the diet by eliminating sugars, saturated fats and cow's milk produce. Ultimately one should test for food sensitivities and eliminate any identified offenders, and balance hormones naturally through diet, exercise, stress management and quality sleep.

What are the best treatments to target acne?
For live Acne one needs to identify the underlying causes of acne in deciding which treatment is most suitable for the individual case. Food Intolerance testing has been a very successful action for my clients, alongside Hydrafacial treatments to achieve a greatly enhanced and fast purge, followed by DermaLux LED therapy to heal the skin, stimulate new growth, destroy bacteria, and because it can reach the deeper layer of skin, stimulate rejuvenation. These latter two therapies give excellent results, but additionally addressing food sensitivities ensures the acne sufferer knows how to adjust their diet for their personal maintenance of more youthful, blemish free skin in the longer term.

What are the best treatments to target acne scarring?
If you have acne scars on your face or body, no matter how you got them, it can have a seriously detrimental effect on your self-confidence; everyone wants to be able to look in the mirror and feel happy and comfortable with what they see reflected there.

Fortunately, Icon laser treatment for acne scars has come on leaps and bounds in recent years and can be used on any skin type, removing the need for surgery and meaning you can throw away that thick makeup forever.

It works in a really simple way – pulses of laser light break down the scar tissue and stimulate new, healthy tissue to form in its place. Quick and easy, it's a straightforward procedure and you shouldn't need any recovery time afterwards. Laser acne scar removal treatment can be used on surgical or acne scars anywhere on the body, including the face. It also works on any skin type, including both very light and very dark skin.

Another treatment is Micro-needling, it is passed over the area to be treated, and inserts tiny needles into the skin, leaving minute puncture wounds. These tiny punctures trigger the body's wound healing response and encourage the body to renew the skin cells in that area. While the body repairs the skin, it increases the production of collagen and elastin, immediately plumping the area. As the body repairs the skin you will also see scarring, dark marks and sun damage decreasing.
