Trident University Health Sciences Professor Honored By National Communication Association
Dr. Leandra Hernández, professor in Trident's College of Health and Human Services received two awards at the National Communication Association 104th Annual Conference in November.
CYPRESS, Calif., Dec. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Trident University International (Trident) is proud to announce that Dr. Leandra Hernández, professor in the College of Health and Human Services, received two awards at the National Communication Association (NCA) 104th Annual Conference last month in Salt Lake City.
She was the recipient of the NCA Feminist and Women's Studies Division's 2018 Bonnie Ritter Book Award for the book, Challenging Reproductive Control and Gendered Violence in the Américas: Intersectionality, Power, and Struggles for Rights.
Available though Lexington Books, this book examines reproductive and gendered violence against women in Texas and Latin America. Dr. Hernández and co-author Dr. Sarah de Los Santos Upton, University of Texas at El Paso, analyze contemporary issues including reproductive justice, feminicides, and anti-feminicidal activism.
Additionally, Dr. Hernández received the 2018 NCA Applied Communication Division Bill Eadie Distinguished Article Award for the peer-reviewed work, "Telling global public health stories: Narrative message design for issues management." This article, which was published in Communication Research, was co-authored with Dr. Marissa J. Doshi and Dr. Joshua B. Barbour.
Dr. Hernández is an instructor for the courses Health Communication & Advocacy, Cross-Cultural Health Perspectives, and Cultural Diversity in Health Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Health Communication from Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from University of St. Thomas.
