TrueMotion Partners with The Hanover Insurance Group to Promote Teen Driver Safety
Smartphone telematics platform to power safe driving program for teens
BOSTON, Sept. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- TrueMotion, the leading platform for smartphone telematics, today announced a new partnership with The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. As part of this partnership, The Hanover will use TrueMotion's patented platform to power its new digital program, built to encourage safe driving among teens. The Hanover SafeTeen program will be available through the company's agent partners.
Teen drivers will receive an overall driving score based on behaviors such as speeding, harsh braking, distraction and acceleration. Drivers will be sent Amazon rewards when they have an overall green driving score as provided under the program. Parents will also have a dashboard view of their teen's driving behaviors, giving them the opportunity to coach them on safe driving habits.
"We understand that one of the most stressful times as a parent is when you send your newly licensed driver out on the road," said Dan Halsey, president, personal lines at The Hanover. "Our partnership with TrueMotion allows us to offer our agent partners a valuable tool for their customers embarking on this new journey with their teens. We looked at a broad group of smartphone telematics companies to partner with, but in the end we selected TrueMotion because of its data accuracy, consultative approach, and experience with safe driving programs."
Teenagers drive less frequently than other age groups in the US, but are killed in car crashes at much higher rates. According to IIHS, the fatal crash rate per mile driven for 16-19 year-olds is nearly three times the rate for drivers 20 and over. Six teenagers die from motor vehicle injuries every day.
"Distracted driving is one of the most dangerous challenges facing society today, especially for young people. Our smartphone telematics platform was designed to reveal driving behaviors and motivate teens to learn better driving habits using the latest strategies from behavioral science and mobile engagement," said TrueMotion CEO Ted Gramer. "We're excited to partner with The Hanover in our joint mission to make roads safer for all, provide independent agents with a useful tool for their customers, and provide more peace of mind for parents of teen drivers, knowing their kids will be safer behind the wheel with this program."
The mobile app will be available to policyholders for free and a discount is provided on their auto policy, as part of The Hanover SafeTeen program. Once a driver has installed the app and signed up for the program, TrueMotion's technology works in the background to determine when that driver is operating the vehicle and then scores their driving behaviors. Every driving trip results in a score, and all trips are rolled into a cumulative overall driving score where qualifying drivers can earn Amazon rewards. The driver and family members will be able to see the teens driving habits on the app, increasing awareness around driving behaviors and opportunities for improvement.
The Hanover will roll out its teen driving rewards program in several states this year. The company's agent partners will have the ability to access the tool and sign up their customers. For more information, visit https://www.hanover.com/safeteen/.
