Valka makes groundbreaking advancements in salmon cutter technology
Valka takes the lead in salmon cutter automation and pin bone removal with the Valka Cutter.
REYKJAVIK, Iceland, Dec. 10, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- By combining the advanced image processing systems of both 3D imaging and X-Rays with water jets controlled by robots the Valka Cutter is a salmon cutter that also removes pin bones with precision.
Using advanced imaging technology allows every single fillet to be accurately analyzed by the system. This ensures uniform and efficient cutting in relation to the size and thickness of the fillet in accordance with user specifications. It also creates many options in cutting patterns, allowing the portions to be cut depending on the size of the fillet.
In an effort to create the most versatile salmon cutter possible, Valka has worked with the salmon industry to develop a cutter designed to handle salmon fillets whether they are pre-rigor or post rigor. Complex optimization tasks are performed using tilted 2D and dynamic 3D water jet robots. Using these special cutting techniques, the Valka cutter gets the most out of every fillet. The versatility in cutting also includes portioning of both skin on and skinless fillets. Through the use of a special serrated steel belt, the product is held firmly during cutting regardless of whether the skin is on or off.
Expanding on previous methods to go beyond cutting along parallel lines, the Valka Cutter offers multiple cutting options. It is a salmon cutter that can cut both curved and angled patterns to maximize use of the fillet and minimize waste. Every one of these features are included within one machine greatly improving product handling and reducing the amount of labor needed
A number of robot types are available for the Valka Cutter so that it may be customized to suit a variety of portion types. With a its high belt speed of the Valka Cutter is also the most efficient fish portioning machine on the market.
Since debuting its water-jet cutting machine at Seafood Expo Global 2014 in Brussels, Belgium, Valka has been focused on increasing its processing presence worldwide. The company contracted with Båtsfjordbruket in September 2019 to provide two complete automated fillet processing lines for whitefish and salmon. It also contracted with Norway's SalMar in March 2020 to give the seafood supplier with a state-of-the-art salmon grading and packing system.
