Vicon Boosts its Centralized VMS Platform by Adding License Plate Recognition Technology to its Portfolio
The Roughneck Pro LPR Camera allows users to capture, store, and search on license plates from over 70 countries, and visually examine vehicle details, as well as the scene around the vehicle, in impressive 8MP detail—all from a single camera.
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Oct. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Vicon Industries, Inc., a subsidiary of Cemtrex Inc. (Nasdaq: CETX, CETXP, CETXW), designer and manufacturer of video surveillance and access control software, hardware, and components, announced today the launch of a new License Plate Recognition (LPR) Camera. The Roughneck Pro LPR Camera allows users to capture, store, and search on license plates from over 70 countries, and visually examine details like vehicle color, make, and model in impressive 8MP detail—all from a single camera.
The new LPR camera—available in both bullet and box form factors—is ideal for stop and go applications, like gated communities, drop-off/pick-up lines, parking garages, drive-thrus, and more.
"Our LPR camera does the job of two separate cameras: an LPR camera and a 4K surveillance camera," said Bob Germain, Vicon's Director of Camera Products. "Traditionally, LPR cameras require special image configurations and a tighter field-of-view to capture the plate information. This means users could miss additional vehicle details, like make, model, color, vehicle damage, and parking decals, as well as what's going on in the scene around the vehicle," added Bob.
Vicon's LPR camera lets users capture the plate and visually discern all those important details on its own; there's no need for users to incur the cost of an auxiliary camera to see the whole picture. Additionally, the camera incorporates supplementary analytics that can enhance surveillance. For example, a car that's idling/parked at an un-manned entry gate would trigger an LPR event plus a "loitering" alarm, prompting users to remotely assess the situation in real-time and gather all the license plate details for that car.
The camera's Starlight low-light technology allows users to see vivid colors and sharp details that could be overlooked at night with some traditional LPR cameras, which are designed to work in black-and-white mode at night. In addition, the camera incorporates Highlight Compensation, which suppresses the blooming that can occur from headlights and taillights at night.
With its seamless integration into Vicon's Valerus VMS, the LPR camera lets users monitor, track, and react to LPR events and related video from a single interface.
"Users can monitor their video, access control, and now their LPR events, from a single interface," said Haim Shain, Vicon's Senior Vice President of Product Management. "All that data lives in one place," continued Shain, "and users can see it all from a single window, so there's no need to switch between multiple tabs or monitors. Users can manage everything as one centralized system and optimize their security operations."
Having the LPR analytic embedded on the camera is a more economical solution, with one less piece to worry about. When users integrate the LPR camera with Valerus, no additional software is needed. And because the LPR analytic resides on the camera, it provides real-time, accurate results without degrading server performance or compromising bandwidth.
Vicon's LPR solution is well suited for a wide variety of verticals, including healthcare, correctional facilities, gated communities, airports, office parks, school campuses, and more.
