The Vinyl Sustainability Council has opened submissions for its three annual awards. The winners will be revealed at the Sustainability Summit, taking place in Austin, Texas from December 4-6, 2023.
WASHINGTON, June 21, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC), a self-funded business council advancing sustainability in the vinyl industry, has opened its submission portal for its three annual awards - Vinyl Recycling Award, Social Impact Award, and Design for Reuse Award. The winners will be announced at the VSC Sustainability Summit, taking place in Austin, Texas on December 4, 2023.
"Individual company initiatives are fundamental to driving sustainability improvement in the vinyl industry," said Jay Thomas, VSC's Executive Director. "We're proud to highlight the leadership of our member companies that are implementing important programs to create greater efficiencies in their operations and leading the charge to become more sustainable."
Vinyl Recycling Award
The "2023 Vinyl Recycling Award" recognizes the efforts of vinyl supply chain members with operations in North America that find new solutions and/or markets for PVC end-of-life or scrap materials, increase use of recycled vinyl content, and/or engage in partnerships with companies in take-back programs.
In 2022, the VSC recognized JP Industrial for its ability to overcome the challenge of recycling vinyl window scrap material, improving screening technology, and preventing 100 million pounds of PVC from ending up in the landfill.
Social Impact Award
The "2023 Social Impact Award" recognizes the efforts of a Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC) member that has demonstrated a strong commitment to their communities. This annual award acknowledges outstanding programs (or products within a program) that address a social concern utilizing a company's resources to have a positive impact.
VSC recognized Cornerstone Building Brands in 2022 for their continued emphasis on affordable housing options. Cornerstone's ongoing "Home for Good" project focuses on a commitment to affordable housing in local communities and to partnering with organizations that amplify such impact on those communities.
Design for Reuse Award
The "2023 Design for Reuse Award" recognizes vinyl products purposely designed for disassembly, recycling, or reuse at the product's end of life. Priority is given to those products where these design criteria were a fundamental aspect of the design process.
