Women’s Dermatologic Society to Bring Award-Winning Play Safe in the Sun Program to NYC
NEW YORK (PRWEB) August 28, 2018 -- According to the American Cancer Society, one life is lost each hour from skin cancer. Early detection can help prevent over three million cases of skin cancer each year.
On September 9th, the Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS) will host their award-winning Play Safe in the Sun Program at the New York Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. To help prevent future cases of skin cancer, WDS will be providing free skin cancer screenings, sun damage assessments, sun safety educational materials, and complimentary La Roche-Posay sunscreen samples to the public.
Since the launch of the Play Safe in the Sun Program in 2004, WDS has hosted almost 60 events, screened over 4,850 people, and distributed over 350,000 sunscreen samples! The program’s goal is to raise awareness about the dangers of skin cancer, provide opportunities for early detection and instill safe sun habits.

Komen Race for the Cure reaches people that are already committed to a healthy and active lifestyle, and who love being outdoors. We want to show them that an integral part of a healthy lifestyle is also receiving regular skin cancer screenings,” stated Dr. Rebecca Tung, WDS Service Committee Volunteer. “We look forward to continuing this program in multiple cities across the country each year.”
