World Wide Stereo Opens the Doors to New JBL Synthesis Home Cinema
ARDMORE, Pa., Oct. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- World Wide Stereo, one of the nation's leading providers of consumer electronics and premium home audio, opened the doors to its latest upgraded home theater in their Ardmore Technology Design Gallery. The new JBL Synthesis home theater — named after Philo Farnsworth, the inventor of the TV — features a JBL Synthesis SDP-75 surround processor with 3D audio, Mark Levinson amplification, and a complete in-wall/in-ceiling speaker system. This is the only system of its kind on the East Coast, and one of three in the entire USA.
The original theater in Ardmore was already powered by World Wide Stereo's finest audio systems. Designed in part by legendary theater designer, Keith Yates, with superb acoustics, Cinematech's finest luxury seating, and Sony's top-of-the-line VPL-VW5000e projector, the theater left little to be desired. Then the World Wide team decided to take it to a whole new level. "We went all JBL, the most trusted brand in cinema sound," said Bob Cole, CEO and Founder of World Wide Stereo. You might already be familiar with Dolby Atmos (the most well known 3D surround sound technology), but JBL Synthesis does them all, including Auro-3D and DTS:X.
"3D audio is the next evolution in surround sound," Bob said. "Previous surround sound processing and recording formats would have sound that pans from speaker to speaker, but doesn't place a specific sound in space. You just get a sense that it's moving by. With 3D audio, you can hear a hummingbird a foot in front of you holding its position and then slowly fly away around and above you — and that's the experience!"
Equipping the theater with state-of-the-art electronics was a major part of the upgrade, but it was only one facet. The design, installation, and calibration are what makes it rock. The installation technicians had to change existing speaker positions, build a column, and rewire all of the components (there are 11 speakers and four subwoofers in total). Then the equipment had to be calibrated. Kevin Kent, Field Application Engineer of Harman Luxury Audio who travels the world calibrating JBL Synthesis cinemas, spent a full day in the theater to fine-tune its performance. "When a customer buys a Synthesis theater from World Wide Stereo, they get Kevin Kent, backed up by the JBL Synthesis engineering staff," Bob added.
Kent began with eight microphones (one per listening position) and a specialized ninth microphone designed to measure the 3D audio. The specialized microphone has four microphones built-in for measuring sound at different heights, allowing for unprecedented accuracy. Lower frequencies produced by four subwoofers are calibrated to function as a single woofer, providing consistent, even bass in all listening positions via a specialized JBL processor ( SDEC-4500P). The overall result is truly spectacular.
