“As We Run, We Become”: 2019’s RUN! GEEK! RUN! 5K Set for September 29
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (PRWEB) July 01, 2019 -- The 12th annual RUN! GEEK! RUN! 5K will take off in Alexandria, Virginia on September 29, 2019. This 5K event has become a community tradition, with all proceeds benefitting select Alexandria nonprofit organizations.
This year, RUN! GEEK! RUN! will benefit National Industries for the Blind (NIB), the nation’s largest employment resource for people who are blind. For over 80 years, NIB and its nationwide network of associated nonprofit agencies has supported and sustained the economic independence of Americans who are blind. NIB provides thousands of U.S.-based job opportunities for people who are blind, including many of our nation’s veterans experiencing visual-impairment or other disabilities through its Veteran Employment Support Program. NIB was established in 1938 and has called Alexandria home for more than 20 years. In November 2018, NIB moved into its new headquarters building in Potomac Yard, along the race course.
“We are thrilled to be selected as the beneficiary for the 2019 RUN! GEEK! RUN! event,” said NIB President and CEO Kevin Lynch. “Support from neighbors like RUN! GEEK! RUN! allows us to continue to deliver high-quality employment, training, and other services for people who are blind.”
Online registration for RUN! GEEK! RUN! is now open. Participants can also join the official RUN! GEEK! RUN! mascot team, Team Eugene! As world champion runner Paul Tergat once put it, “Ask yourself: ‘Can I give more?’. The answer is usually: ‘Yes.’”
The 5K race is a USATF-certified course, beginning and ending at the south end of Alexandria’s Main Line Boulevard. Awards are handed out to the top three male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in 5-year age group categories. The top three Corporate and Community Teams also receive awards.
