“Adventurers Abroad: The New American Expat Generation” Tracks Wave of 21st Century American Expats
Morgan Hill, CA (PRWEB) July 22, 2015 -- A new wave of American expatriates has swollen the ranks of Americans living abroad to well over seven million people according to Robert Nelson, an expert in expat trends and author of the new book, Adventurers Abroad: The New American Expat Generation.
In the book, Nelson profiles the new American expat generation through first-person accounts by 14 Millennial and young Gen-Xer expats who share their unique and personal stories about life lived abroad. It details their experiences from the risks and rewards of being an entrepreneur abroad, to navigating school systems and corporate life, to the challenges of adopting a new language and customs.
Nelson also provides an overview of the new American expat generation, why they are moving abroad and where they are moving, based on research Nelson commissioned through his company MyInternationalAdventure.com and other expat studies and interviews.
“The 21st century is creating a new class of American expats, world citizens who are at ease living abroad and often move from country to country to find new adventures, experiences and opportunities,” Nelson said. “Much like the ‘Lost Generation’ of the early 20th century, the new 21st century American expat generation is looking for something a little out of the ordinary, which is not surprising since mainly Millennials are leading the wave.”
Nelson added, “Not only are Millennials and younger Gen-Xers under the age of 45 rapidly adopting the expat lifestyle, their numbers could grow much larger, much faster. Younger Millennials – those between the ages of 18 and 24 – often are constrained by the amount of money it takes to move abroad. But an increasing number of them are packing their bags and hitting the road, often teaching English in other countries and developing a taste for the life of an expat.”
