"America’s Got Talent" Star and Former Coal Miner Jimmy Rose to Attend Bob Huggins Fish Fry Presented by Little General Stores
Morgantown, WV (PRWEB) January 22, 2014 -- Remember The Miners announces the addition of country music star Jimmy Rose to the Bob Huggins Fish Fry Presented by Little General Stores lineup. Rose, a singer and songwriter, shot to fame in 2013 as a standout in “America’s Got Talent” after Heidi Klum, Howard Stern, Howie Mandel, and Melanie Brown each gave the Pineville, KY native a resounding “Yes!” following his performance of “Coal Keeps the Lights On.”
“Coal Keeps the Lights On” became a rally cry for an industry that faces and uncertain future. Rose advanced to the finals of “America’s Got Talent,” where he finished third. He was driven to success by the support of fellow coal miners, marine veterans, and fans of country music.
The Fish Fry benefits both the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund and the Remember The Miners’ flagship charitable endeavor, the Scholars Program. The Remember The Miners Scholars Program was created in 2011 to provide financial aid to miners, dependents of miners, and students pursuing higher education in the mining industry. Remember The Miners and the West Virginia Coal Foundation created the Scholars Program to support families of the West Virginia mining community. Awardees of the scholarship are miners, dependents of miners, or students pursuing higher education in the mining industry.

After graduating high school, Rose went straight underground to start a job as a coal miner. He is a marine veteran and was deployed in Iraq in 2005.
“The Remember The Miners Scholars Program affords students to have a chance at education beyond just high school, in a place where so many people must work for a living to support their families at a young age,” began Rose, adding, “I’m so proud to be part of the efforts of Remember The Miners to increase access to higher education, creating future generations of coal miners who are working to make the industry a better place.”
This year, the Fish Fry moves to Mylan Park at the Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center. Mylan Park is a state-of-the-art recreational and educational complex located on over 300 acres of beautifully reclaimed surface-mined property just minutes from downtown Morgantown.
