“Breast Cancer? But Doctor…I Hate Pink!” Blogger Ann Silberman and Healthline’s David Kopp to Lead SXSW Interactive Session on Finding a Breast Cancer Cure
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 17, 2015 -- Breast cancer remains the second largest cause of cancer death among women in the U.S. today, impacting the lives of millions of women and their caregivers. Many in the medical community are working towards a cure, but we’re not there yet. At next month’s SXSW Interactive, breast cancer survivor, advocate and “Breast Cancer? But Doctor...I Hate Pink!” blogger Ann Silberman and Healthline’s Executive Vice President and Media Group General Manager David Kopp will lead an interactive session to explore needed change in breast cancer care and cure efforts. The session will explore what can be transformed in breast cancer care and treatment today, the emerging role digital innovation will play in helping find a cure, and how everyone – from consumers and physicians to researchers, health plans and tech companies – can help create change.
What: “Finding a Breast Cancer Cure: What Needs to Change”
When: Sunday, March 15, 2015, 5:00-6:00 p.m. CT
Where: JW Marriott, Room 201-202 – SXSW Interactive, Austin, Texas
As part of the efforts to find a cure, Silberman has also launched a petition encouraging change in the way breast cancer funding dollars are currently used. Over the past 30 years, billions of dollars have been raised for the cause of breast cancer. However, the majority of charitable funding goes towards building awareness for the disease rather than medical research. Silberman believes it’s time to move beyond awareness to finding a cure. The petition calls on breast cancer charities, such as Susan G. Komen, to change their funding models and commit at least 50 percent of total donations towards the medical research and innovation needed to end breast cancer.
