'Comes a Soldier's Whisper' A Must Read for Every American and Veterans of War
Walworth, N.Y. (PRWEB) November 26, 2013 -- Taking flight is the new book “Comes A Soldier's Whisper: A Collection of Wartime Letters with Reflection and Hope for the Future” (published by Trafford Publishing), by Jenny La Sala. It is a warm and loving tribute to her decorated 101st Airborne father, David Clinton Tharp, who was born and raised in Petersburg, Ind. Although a country boy at heart, he fought his way through Normandy, Carentan, Holland and the Battle of the Bulge as part of the elite group of 101st Airborne paratroopers and as a radio operator with the 502nd PIR. He would later say that he was, “Amazed with his life and body intact.” This is a wonderful gift to all soldiers and families today who have loved ones serving in the military, and it is one of the books which will be featured in the 2013 New York State Reading Association Annual Conference and later in the Texas Library Association’s 2014 Annual Conference.
An excerpt from the U.S. Review of Books review:
“‘My silk is my silent weapon, and my life hangs by its' thread,’ words written by this decorated 101st Airborne paratrooper with regimental headquarters of the Five-O-Deuce PIR in COMES A SOLDIER’S WHISPER. The letters in this collection were written during World War II by David Clinton Tharp to his sweetheart and future mother-in-law back home in Indiana. They give a compelling assessment of the war in Europe from a soldier’s viewpoint with sentiments that resonate with soldiers today.”
“War changes a soldier. War changes his family too,” says La Sala. Readers are invited into Tharp’s world of ups and downs as he bravely fought for his country. Each letter will help the reader to understand what the brave men and women in uniform encounter daily s they fight for our freedom. “It is critical that we let our soldiers of today know that our strength of support is behind their armor,” explains La Sala. The sentiments expressed within these wartime letters nearly 70 years ago whisper revelations that resonate with soldiers today.
“Comes A Soldier's Whisper” catalogues Tharp's letters showing unconventional and progressive views for his time, such as his belief in racial equality. This particular letter was applauded and is also published in Tom Brokaw's book, “The Greatest Generation Speaks.”
