"In America" to Feature New Content on Robotic Surgery with James Earl Jones
(PRWEB) June 11, 2015 -- In keeping with the popular program's mission to keep the public abreast of current topics that promise to change our way of life, James Earl Jones will host an upcoming "In America" segment exploring robotic surgery, one of the most heralded technologies on the medical front today.
Robotic surgery makes use of very small instruments attached to a robotic arm while a flesh and blood human surgeon uses a computer programmed to direct and control the arm while an endoscope holding a camera allows him to see the area on which he is operating. Like laparoscopic surgery, it has the advantage of working through smaller incisions than called for in open surgery, thus leaving less if any scarring. Once the robotic arm is in place, the surgeon is empowered to proceed with an enhanced view, greater dexterity, and more precision than if he were merely laparoscopically guided.
Watch as Mr Jones introduces a segment featuring expert medical guests as they discuss the growing use of this revolutionary minimally invasive technology in procedures previously calling for extensive open cuts; procedures such as coronary bypasses, hip and knee replacements, hysterectomies, gallbladder and kidney removals, and extraction of cancerous growths from sensitive areas of the body.
Each "In America" program is exclusively produced and made available to Public Television stations throughout the country, to be broadcast at their discretion. In no way is "In America," affiliated with PBS or APT.
