"In America" with host James Earl Jones to highlight the Trucking Industry
(PRWEB) June 05, 2015 -- On an upcoming segment of "In America" host James Earl Jones will discuss the trucking industry. Included in the discussion will be thoughts on why this industry continues to play a vital role in America, and the challenges this industry faces.
In the United States, there are approximately 8.9 million people who work in a trucking-related job. Of those, 3.5 million of them are truck drivers. Trucks deliver close to 70 percent of all freight that's transported in the country. The freight is made up up manufactured and retail goods that is worth over $600 billion. Add to that, the trucking industry in America is also responsible for transporting $295 billion worth of products to Canada and nearly $200 billion in truck trade with Mexico.
Despite the importance of the trucking in this country, there are some current challenges the industry is facing including a shortage of drivers. This shortage may be a result of tighter federal regulations which reduces the number of hours truckers can drive. The U.S. government has projected a need for over 300,000 truckers by 2020.
"In America" is an independently produced program distributed to Public Television Stations all over the country. It is not affiliated with PBS or APT nor is it a production of either company.
