(ISC)2® Names Dr. Ronald “Ron” Ross Inaugural Lynn F. McNulty Tribute U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Award Recipient
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- (ISC)2® (“ISC-squared”), the world’s largest not-for-profit information security professional body and administrators of the CISSP®, today announced that the (ISC)2 U.S. Government Advisory Board for Cyber Security (GABCS) has bestowed the inaugural Lynn F. McNulty Tribute U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Award (GISLA) to Dr. Ronald “Ron” Ross, senior fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Dr. Ross was recognized tonight at the 2013 GISLA gala ceremony in Arlington, Va.
The new award was established last year as part of the GISLA program after the passing of (ISC)2 evangelist and colleague, Lynn F. McNulty, CISSP, known for his dedication to professionalizing the U.S. government workforce and often referred to by those in the community as the “pioneer” of government information security. The Tribute Award recognizes a member of the U.S. federal information security community who upholds McNulty’s legacy as a visionary and innovator through outstanding service and commitment. Recipients are hand-chosen by the (ISC)2 GABCS annually.
“Dr. Ross has played a key role in establishing cyber security requirements for federal agencies for decades,” said W. Hord Tipton, CISSP, executive director of (ISC)² and former CIO of the U.S. Department of Interior. “By honoring Ron with this designation, we are ensuring that Lynn’s legacy of influence and commitment to government information security is recognized for years to come.”
Dr. Ross serves as senior scientist and information security researcher at NIST where he leads the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) implementation project and is the principal architect of the NIST Risk Management Framework. A former Director of the National Information Assurance Partnership, Dr. Ross also currently supports the U.S. State Department in the international outreach program for information security and critical infrastructure protection.
“While there are many people whose efforts and dedication to the advancement of government security is making an impact, few could argue that Ron comes closest to filling Lynn’s shoes. The decision was unanimous,” said Peter Gouldmann, CISSP, director of information risk programs, Office of Information Assurance, U.S. Department of State, and member, (ISC)2 GABCS. “Ron’s insight and leadership in producing a library of guidance publications over the past decade has greatly contributed to the advancement of information security in government and around the world. His highly collaborative approach, incorporating government and industry, has resulted in products that are being adopted and adapted for use on national security systems, transcending the unclassified and classified systems landscape.”
