“Medical Negligence Claims Will Increase Unless NHS Overhaul Takes Place” Asons Solicitors Comment
Bolton, UK (PRWEB UK) 22 July 2013 -- It is claimed that unless “Fundamental Changes” are made, the NHS will continue to decline and medical negligence claims will increase. Health officials have warned that without the introduction of significant improvements, there could be more and more instances of the alleged appalling patient care suffered at Stafford Hospital (1).
Calculations have been made, and according to the Bolton News, there will be a funding gap of £30 billion between 2013 and 2021. These figures were based on the presumption that the NHS’s current budget would be protected, and that the way patient care is delivered will remain the same.
Britain’s aging population and an increase in long-term conditions have put pressure on the current system, with doubts surfacing as whether the NHS can survive in its current state (1). As reported in the Bolton News, a new NHS document has been released, which claims that making improvements will not be enough –
“Without bold and transformative change to how services are delivered, a high quality yet free at the point of use health service will not be available to future generations.”
Suggestions of ‘radical’ changes have been put forward, with experts advocating the closure of hospitals to allow for the centralisation of services (1). Care would be concentrated in a few specialist centres, allowing for care to be expert led and of a consistently high quality.
Discussing the report, Asons Executive, Suzanne Yates –
“With the prevalence of hospital acquired infections and surgical errors, it is clear that the NHS cannot continue in its current state. We have seen an increase in medical negligence claims, and we are seeing a pattern of similar circumstances within them.
"We repeatedly see misdiagnosis claims, which are often attributed to wards being under-staffed, and those providing care being over-worked.
"It is clear that changes need to be made, but whether or not the centralisation of services is the right choice, I’m not sure. The loss of units are often subject to campaigns backed by local MP’s, with communities passionate about saving their local hospital. For NHS reforms to be successful, it is clear that national support will be required."
In the event that you consider yourself to have been subject medical negligence, you must seek legal advice as quickly as possible. Taking action can prevent the same situation from reoccurring, helping others to avoid injury in future.
If you, or someone you know, have suffered as a result of medical negligence then you may be able to make a claim. Claiming for, for example, surgery compensation may help you to cover medical costs, any loss of earnings and any other financial burdens associated with your recovery.
